Founded by Lawrence M. Goldman in 1985, Goldman Environmental Consultants (GEC) is a full service environmental consulting firm serving Fortune 500 companies, small manufacturers, associations, businesses, government agencies, and municipalities. GEC specializes in:

  • Site assessment, risk assessment, site remediation, and brownfields;
  • Environmental health and safety (EHS) compliance, permitting, audits, and reporting;
  • Resource protection, pollution prevention, and Toxics Use Reduction (TUR); and
  • Environmental engineering including site planning and development, wetlands assessment and permitting, water and wastewater treatment systems, and landfill closure.

GEC has a multidisciplinary staff with extensive experience to deliver expert consulting services. Our staff includes Licensed Site Professionals (LSPs), a Certified Toxic Use Reduction Planner, Certified Hazardous Material Managers, Professional Geologists, engineers, risk assessors, toxicologists, hydrologists, chemists, and wastewater treatment plant operators. GEC also employs several specialists, including wetland and environmental scientists and multi-disciplinary regulatory specialists.

Lawrence M. Goldman, LSP President

Larry Goldman is the President and Founder (1985) of Goldman Environmental Consultants, Inc. He currently administers staff of engineers, hydrogeologists, toxicologists, biologists and support personnel in conducting walk through and subsurface investigations as well as providing expertise on state/federal permitting and regulatory compliance. He developed assessment, containment and remediation programs for numerous complex sites under Federal Superfund, RCRA, MGL Chapter 21E and the MCP. He renders LSP opinions, implements risk reduction measures, and provides peer review.

Larry has had over 40 years of experience administering and managing multi-media (air, water, and hazardous waste) state/federal environmental programs for industry and government. As Director of Enforcement, EPA Region I (New England), he administered a staff of 75 that conducted permitting, compliance monitoring, and regulatory enforcement activities in concert with New England state environmental agencies (1972-1982).

Larry was a member of the initial MassDEP taskforce which developed the LSP Program as well as the MCP. He has also served on the Sharon Zoning Board of Appeals for many years.

Larry is a Licensed Site Professional (MA) and is knowledgeable of MGL Chapter 21E and the MCP. He provides technical and regulatory support to law firms, Fortune 500 companies, as well as small to medium sized manufacturers and businesses.

Larry has a B.S. from the Lowell Technological Institute and an M.S in Engineering and Environmental Studies from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.

Brian Butler, PG, LSP Senior Vice President, Operations

Brian Butler has been with Goldman Environmental Consultants, Inc. for over 19 years in various roles. He is currently the Senior Vice President of Operations. He is responsible for day-to-day operations at GEC and directly oversees Waste Site Assessment and Remediation activities. He is LSP of Record for nearly all of GEC’s sites in Massachusetts and is also a Professional Geologist.

Brian’s areas of specialization include environmental site investigation, environmental remediation, and redevelopment of Brownfield Sites. He has over thirty years of experience in managing a wide range of environmental engineering projects including waste site cleanup, landfill assessment and closure, water supply development and protection and environmental permitting. He has extensive experience in subsurface assessments, hydrogeologic investigations, contaminant transport modeling, and remedial alternatives evaluations.

He was a member of the Norfolk Conservation Commission for seven years and is familiar with wetland regulations and the Massachusetts Wetland’s Protection Act and local Bylaws. Brian conducts peer review evaluations, has provided expert witness consultation during mediation and has provided depositional testimony as well as during a jury trial.

Brian has a B.S. in Geology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and M.S. in Environmental Studies from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and is a Massachusetts Licensed Site Professional (LSP) and Professional Geologist (PG).

Eileen Furlong Principal, Senior Risk Assessor

Eileen Furlong is a Principal and Senior Risk Assessor at Goldman Environmental Consultants, Inc. Eileen has been with GEC for over 20 years and has over 30 years of experience in the environmental consulting field. Eileen has extensive experience characterizing human health risks from multi-media contaminants at hazardous waste disposal sites. She also has extensive experience conducting health assessments (environmental fate, human exposure, and toxicology) for federal Superfund sites.

Eileen strategizes, directs and conducts projects involved in site assessment activities, fate and transport modeling, risk characterizations, and scopes of work, relative to MCP and MGL Chapter 21E. Previously with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health she conducted health assessments for Superfund sites per a cooperative agreement with the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.

Eileen has a B.S. in Marine Biology from the Southeastern Massachusetts University and an M.S. in Limnology Option, Department of Fisheries and Wildlife from the Michigan State University.

Brian Donahoe Vice President, Environmental Engineering

Brian Donahoe is the Vice President of Environmental Engineering at Goldman Environmental Consultants, Inc. Brian has been with GEC for over 15 years and has over 40 years of experience including project management, environmental engineering and land surveying in both the private and government sectors. His project work involved project development-planning, designing, engineering, project management and construction. His experience includes the operation of water and wastewater treatment facilities, fresh and salt-water wetlands analysis, enhancement and restoration; stormwater treatment, solid and hazardous waste facilities. He has worked on the engineering, design and permitting of numerous complex projects including solid waste landfills, site remediation, residential and commercial subdivisions, recreational projects, coastal structures including piers, docks, seawalls, revetments and dredging; infrastructure including roadways, drainage, sewers, water and wastewater treatment; highway and rail transportation, on- and offshore oil and gas development and distribution.

He has extensive experience with local, state, and federal environmental permitting, policy development and drafting of regulations and programs including NEPA, RCRA, TSCA, COE, FERC, MEPA, and the CWA. Prior to joining GEC, Mr. Donahoe served as Deputy Regional Director for the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Southeast Regional Office. Previously, he was the Director of the Division of Water Pollution Control for the same agency. He represented Massachusetts and EPA Region I in Washington D.C. as a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of State & Interstate Water Pollution Control Administrators (ASWIPCA) now known as the Association of Clean Water Administrators (ACWA).

Brian has a B.S. in Marine Biology from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.
